Random dragon on sketchbook paper with micron pens.
I’ve been pretty busy lately, so all I have from the past month is a a 15 minute or so sketchy doodle of some kind of dragon/serpent thing. I contemplated calling it a naga, but it has wings, so it’s probably just some nameless wierd thing.

I have an old pencil box full of random crayons. I found that the crayolas had solid colors but cheap random brand ones could give a nice waxy blend on top. I wish I had thought to take a picture of the lineart because part of it is kind of obsured, but it’s not a huge loss. The whole thing to big to scan in it’s entirety and likes to roll up at the ends; it’s about the size of two sheets of 8” x 11” paper or approximately 11” x 17”.
Been working on an old doodle I must have started two years ago.
It was a fullbody dragon sketch until I picked it back up three weeks ago and inked it with a sharpie pen. I wasn’t willing to spend time using prismacolor pencils on it, so I started using crayola crayons. I’m not sure why, but in the end it was fun (if not a learning experience). Eventually I’ll get a full picture of it instead of a partial scan.
I’ve built up a buffer of discarded images from my attempts at drawing something in Oekaki. Sometimes I get frustrated with a sketch and change it completely or latch onto a radically different idea instead. Either way, I think it’s kind of interesting to look at the framework and totally messy ideas. When I draw digitally I tend to make several layers of scratchy lineart in obnoxious colors; I’m not sure if its a novice technique or if it actually helps with anything, but I do it subconsciously.
This is pretty old; I’m not sure if I ever posted it or not. I like doodling my Zanik dragon character frequently, but I struggle with his face. I often make his face very wide and rudimentarily-shaped so it looks too cartoony for my tastes.
I tend to sketch out people very poorly and then give up once I reach the feet. This person below is a good example where I forget what to do with the leg parts (how do the feet things???):
Below isn’t really a true scrap piece, but I did run out of canvas (the Oekaki I used limits the canvas to a max of 600 x 600). Recently I actually moved the file to my Photoshop elements, where I might finish it later.
I still struggle with drawing figures. I should really sit down and practice drawing people and movement. I was going to draw some sort of oracle with a magic crystal or something, but I became discouraged:

I don’t always draw people, but when I do, they look like faux-Wolverines.
My character Zanik in his human shape, which by his own admission, doesn’t look that human on closer inspection. He’s really a dragon (the same one from Fire and Ash) with three horns, which I tried to translate into hair, but it only ended up looking like more like Wolverine’s cut than I wanted. whoops.
His shape isn’t a simple glamour or spell, it’s a shapeshift which is based off his natural scale colors which are red, black, and grey (hence the overly grey color). I probably should have drawn him a little more angry or something – the raised eyebrow look isn’t working for him.
