Daily Post: Quotes

I read this post on The Daily Post: http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2012/01/24/creative-manifestos/ Where do you find inspirational words? Better yet, what’s your favorite quote that you’ve written yourself?

I find the most inspirational words in poems or more likely song lyrics I come across. I read them and sometimes I pick up on themes or feelings and it helps me draw or write. Sometimes they make me just laugh.

Here are a few of many the favorites I can remember:

Modest Mouse, ‘Custom Concern: ‘Message read on the bathroom wall
Says, “I don’t feel at all like I fall.”
And we’re losing all touch, losing all touch
Building a desert

Modest Mouse, ‘A Life of Arctic Sounds’: ‘As long as your gone,
I can’t apologize
for all the things that I haven’t said and done

Modest Mouse, ‘Baby Blue Sedan’: ‘And it’s hard to be a human being, And it’s harder as anything else, And I’m lonesome when you’re around,And I’m never lonesome when I’m by myself, And I miss you when you’re around.

Cage the Elephant, Around My Head: ‘I don’t think it’s very nice
To walk around my head all night
You got me tangled like a bread-tie twisted
I don’t think it’s fair…

William Blake’s ‘Auguries of Innocence’: ‘To see a world in a grain of sand
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand
And eternity in an hour.

I actually find most of the tidbits of the Auguries of Innocence pretty inspirational. I also love his poem ‘The Poisen Tree’.

Spoon, ‘Jonathan Fisk’: ‘It’s such a long way home,
It’s how the story goes.
And it’s like atom bombs and blunt razors, Atom bombs and blunt razors

Ho Chi Minh: ‘When the prison doors are opened, the real dragon will fly out.

William Shakespeare: ‘Hell is empty and the devils are all here.

Firefly’s Wash: ‘Curse you and your sudden but inevitable betrayal!

I don’t really make any inspirational quotes. The stuff I say is usually when I have a good conversation going with a friend and it’s all situational humor. I but I did promise a friend we’d get “I see stupid people” on a shirt. I’m pretty sure I’m not the first to say that however.

Rogue.
